Office Express - June 2006 Newsletter

Are you?

  1. The one throwing the bouquet
  2. Someone trying to catch it
  3. The guy whose only reason for showing up is the open bar

OR. . .

Are you?

  1. Finally able to throw that cap into the air
  2. Enjoying financial freedom now that your kid is on his own
  3. The friend who always gives the perfect gift

Regardless of where you fit into the Wedding/Graduation scenarios that flourish in June, you´re sure to be taking some snapshots to capture these once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Here are a few things to keep in mind while going camera crazy this month:

  1. Be aware of lighting. Bright backlighting can throw everything in foreground into shadow. Natural light is best, but not when subjects are squinting. Take a good look at the subject´s face to see how the light is affecting their appearance. Bright light can show wrinkles (nobody wants that!) Softer afternoon or morning light is better. Use your flash, even if you´re taking photos outdoors to be sure your subject is lit.
  2. Catch candid moments. While the stock picture of Aunt Helen with the nieces and nephews lined up like they are ready for police questioning is nice(!), photos that capture your family and friends really interacting capture some more authentic moments that really express those relationships.
  3. Experiment with different angles. Get low or get high to add visual interest.
  4. Get close. Know what you want to photograph and get close enough to have it fill the frame. Avoid distracting backgrounds that detract from your subject.
  5. Take plenty of pictures! Chances are at weddings and graduation parties you´ll be seeing relatives and friends you may not get to see too often. Take advantage of the opportunity to grab a snapshot of them. Make sure you get into a couple of those pictures yourself!
  6. Keep a disposable camera around the house. It´s a great diversion for your littlest guests when they start to get fidgety. Tell them they are now in charge of documenting the event. Not only does it cut down on restlessness, the kids feel more involved in the event. Plus, you never know when your batteries will die. You can just grab the disposable and go!

When you are done collecting these memories, be sure to send friends and relatives copies of the photos. Nothing beats holding an actual picture in your hand. In this day of digital everything, a picture in the mail with a personal handwritten note seems even more special.

When sending photos, use the 4x6 photo/invitation envelope. It´s made specifically for mailing up to eight of your fave photos. Now available in: Lunar Blue, Re-Entry Red and Lift-Off Lemon, as well as the old-stand-by white.

If you aren´t sure what color will work best, free samples are always available at www.envelopesexpress.com. All envelopes can be viewed on the site. Free standard shipping and a minimum order requirement of only 25 envelopes remain attractive draws to the site that offers a wide array of invitation, wedding, business and window envelopes.

A few more things to keep in mind this June:

Don´t forget Father´s Day! Give Dad a card made with a picture of his favorite rugrats. They´re the reason he got the title "Dad" in the first place!

Make your own invites to your Fourth of July Party. Order some Re-Entry Red and Lunar Blue photo envelopes to give your invites added holiday spirit.

For all you brides, grooms and grads: Now´s the time to write all your thank-you notes!

Too soon to be thinking about Christmas cards? Never! The photos you take this month may end up being your card this December. Photos are a great way to keep far away friends and family up-to-date on Johnny´s two-inch growth spurt this year!
